Somatochlora hineana (Hine's Emerald)

The Hine's Emerald is an endangered species, the only dragonfly so listed. The face is yellow with bright emerald eyes. The thorax is brown with bright yellow streaks. The abdomen is dark with a hook-like shape on the terminal appendage.
This species lives in prairie wetlands in small territorial areas and feeds over fields at dusk. Read more about the Hine's Emerald.
