The Eastern Ringtail is distinguished by its green, striped thorax and rust-colored club on its abdomen.
It is the only ringtail east of Texas, and is uncommon. It inhabits shallow, gravel- or sand-bottomed rivers and streams. The females eggs are deposited into the water and drift down into the gravel.
