Eacles imperialis (Imperial Moth, male)

This male Imperial Moth specimen shows the males' dark pinkish marking against the yellow color of the wings. Wingspan in this species is from 3 to 6.75 inches.

Adults produce one brood per season in northern areas. Larvae feed on host plants that include basswood, birch, cedar, elm, maple, and oak trees.
