ISM Herbarium : Prairie Herbs : Aster (Asteraceae)

Silphium integrifolium (Rosin Weed)
Rosin Weed gets its name from the rough texture of the leaf's upper surface. The plant grow to two or three feet tall in mesic prairies with deep soil.
The leaves are usually round and broad with pointed tips. They may be alternate, opposite, or whorled. From summer to fall at the top of the stems are several stalked flower heads about three inches across, each made up of a disk flower surrounded by 16-35 yellow ray flowers.
