Black-eyed Susans are common in pastures, meadows, field, and roadsides, and also grow in higher quality dry to mesic prairies. Plants are usually about two feet tall, but can grow to over three feet. The stems and leaves are hairy. Leaves are alternate and have well-defined parallel veins. A two-to-three inch wide flower tops a stem. It consists of a dark brown rounded disk surrounded by 88-20 yellow ray flowers.
