Viburnum prunifolium (Black Haw)
Black haw is a shrub or small tree (under 20 feet tall) that grows in thickets in moist soils in valleys and on slopes. Its range is from SW Iowa and SE Wisconsin eastward to SW Connecticut and southward to Alabama. This specimen exhibits the dark, shiny green elliptical leaves with fine teeth along the margins. It also bears the stalked bluish-black fruits that contain a flat stone and the clusters of white-lobed flowers.
