Quercus rubra (Red Oak)
Red oak grows to 90 feet tall in various moist soils, such as sandy, loamy, rocky, and clay through out the eastern half of the United States except for the deep south.
The tree has a large, rounded crown and deeply furrowed dark bark. The dull green leaves are divided into seven to eleven shallow wavy lobes that are tipped with sharp teeth or bristles. The acorn (shown here) is from 5/8" to 1 1/8" long, with a broad, scaled cap.
