Larix laricina (Larch)
The deciduous larch tree grows in New England and around the Great Lakes in the United States. Its tapering trunk and conical crown grow to a height of 80 feet in wet, peaty bogs and swamps or in loamy soils. This larch specimen shows the 3/4 to one inch needles and the 1/2" to 3/4" red-brown cones that carry the paired, winged seeds.
