Juglans nigra (Black Walnut)
Black walnut trees are found in the eastern half of the United States. They grow in moist, well-drained areas, such as those next to streams, as well as in mixed forests.
Black walnut trees can reach 90 feet in height and four feet in diameter. The dark green leaves are pinnately compound, serrated, lance-shaped, and stalkless. Bark is dark brown and furrowed. The fruit is about 2 inches in diameter, dark brown, with a ridged shell and an edible seed.
