Tradescantia ohiensis (Common Spiderwort)
Common Spiderwort grows in dry to mesic praires, pastures, and savannas. Plants are up to three feet tall, topped by a cluster of blue to purple three-petaled flowers. Leaves are narrow but up to 15 inches long and clasp the stem at their base. Each flower is on a stalk with three shiny green sepals. Stamens are covered with hairs. Blooms last for one day only from late spring to fall.
