Elymus canadensis (Canadian Wild Rye)
Canadian Wild Rye is a three to five foot tall grass that grows in bunches in moist to moderately dry prairies and disturbed areas such as fields and along streams.
The leaves are narrow (1/8" to 1/4") long (up to 15") and flat with pointed tips. The flowers, which bloom from late spring to early fall, appear in a 4 to 10 inch long, bending cluster at the top of the stems above the leaves. The flowers have 2" long curved bristles called awns.
