Aster novae-angliae (New England Aster)
New England Asters grow up to six feet tall in moist areas and moist to wet prairies.
The one-and-a-half-inch flower head consists of about 40 purple petal-like ray flowers around a yellow disk. The plant blooms in late summer and fall.
Leave are alternate, up to four inches long, and have pointed tips. This specimen includes a root ball.
