Asclepias viridiflora (Green Milkweed)
Green Milkweed appears occasionally in dry or sandy prairies. It reaches less than two feet in height. The thick leaves are wavy-edged and may be opposite or alternate on short 1/4" stalks. Each rounded greenish flower cluster appears near the top of the plant where the leaves join the stem. There are often 25 or more stalked flowers per cluster with 1/2" long petals and hoods. Green Milkweed blooms from late spring through summer. Seed pods are less than an inch thick but up to 6" long.
