Asclepias verticillata (Whorled Milkweed)
Whorled Milkweed is common in dry pairies and pastures. It blooms in late spring to summer. This milkweed grows to less than two feet tall. The unbranched stems have several 1/8" wide and 3" long leaves arranged around each point on the stem. Several clusters of less than 20 greenish five-petaled flowers with white hoods are near the top of each stem. Seed pods are 3" long and less than 1/2" thick.
