Fraxinus profunda (Pumpkin Ash)
Pumpkin ash, also classified Fraxinus tomentosa, grows to 80- feet in wet soils of swamps and rvier valleys that are submerged for part of the year. It is an uncommon species that grows along the western Ohio River valley in southern Illinois, and along the Atlantic coast from eastern Virginia to northeast Georgia, and in northern Florida.
This specimen shows opposite, saw-toothed, pointed elliptical leaves of yellow-green. Bark is gray and furrowed into a diamond pattern. The fruits, shown here, are yellowish winged keys that hand in clusters.
