Hyman Warsager (1909 - 1988)

lithograph on paper, 1938

Hyman Warsager, a native of Connecticut, studied illustration at the Grand Central School of Art and attended the Pratt Institute. The Artist's Union in New York, and its associated American Artists School opened Warsager's eyes to new ideas about making art. Warsager worked for the New York City WPA graphics program. He had a background in lithography, but the artists also had the help of profesional printers in the printing processes of their work. In the army during World War II, Warsager taught aerial photography and ran a poster shop. He is known for his modern genre images.
