Across the Bridge Irean Gordon ( )
watercolor on paper, circa 1940 15 1/2 x 22 5/8 inches
Irean Gordon worked for the Illinois WPA easel program. She exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1941 and 1948. She is known for her modern landscapes.
This cityscape of Chicago's skyscrapers is painted with watercolor, but achieves a dark look by not having any white areas or light, transparent areas typical of watercolor. The buildings crowd together and seem to be growing.
