Necklace
Circa late nineteenth century
78cm long
Gift of Thomas Condell

Condell probably purchased this necklace in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The long, white glass beads resemble small "hairpipe" beads, a term derived from early Euroamericans on the Plains who noticed the original tubular bone beads hanging from locks of hair.

The necklace is made of eight strands of ten white, tubular glass beads, separated by leather bands, with four rows of four bronze-colored glass luster beads. The beads are strung on leather, and there are leather ties for securing around the neck.
