Lapels and Yoke
Circa 1930
Yoke: 75.8cm x 29cm; Panels: 51cm x 14cm
Gift of Mrs. C.W.H. Schuck

This yoke and two panels were purchased at Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin on the Ojibwa (Chippewa) Reservation. They are made of cotton muslin, fully beaded with blue (two shades), green (two shades), orange semi-metallic, lavender-pink, vermillion, plum, black, and red seed beads in elaborate floral motifs on a white seed bead background. The pieces are trimmed with a narrow gold cloth binding.

The tassels are beaded with black and metallic orange luster beads and are trimmed with dark red, orange, and (badly faded) pink wool yarn at the ends. The yoke has a piece of leather that could have been used to secure the yoke around the wearer's neck. The other two pieces hung down on the chest. It is uncertain exactly how they were attached, but they were probably stitched in some manner onto the garment.
