Cornelian Stone Beads

These reddish-brown, mottled beads are cut from an agate stone called cornelian. This type of bead was probably traded to African peoples by the Stephen A. Frost & Son. The round beads at the top of the card are called yolk beads, in imitation of the amber beads of North Africa that were used as hair and lip ornaments.
