IAAA
Permanent Fund --
A New Dimension in Illinois Archaeology On April 15, 2000, the IAAA membership approved establishing the IAAA PERMANENT FUND, a new endowment fund for the association. This Fund will develop and grow resources, using the dividends and interest from these resources to help fund avocational and professional archaeological projects in the State of Illinois, preserving and developing our rich prehistoric and historic heritage. Interested parties will now have a vehicle to donate gifts, memorials, endowments, bequests and similar contributions, knowing that the interest from these monies will be used to benefit Illinois archaeology. In addition, IAAA Life Memberships, which formerly were channeled into the IAAA operating fund, will now become a resource in the new Permanent Fund. The assets of the Fund will be invested into various conservative financial venues to maximize gain with a minimum risk. This Fund will be operated separately from the IAAA operating funds by an IAAA team of Trustees. Only the dividends and interest from these investments will be used for Grant Awards from the Fund. Categories that could qualify for a grant include:
With a annual growth rate of 6%-10%, one can visualize the potential monies that could be developed for sponsoring programs in our Illinois heritage investigations and preservation. This is a tax-exempt fund. All who are interested and concerned about Illinois heritage preservation can participate in it with the knowledge that donations are going to worthy causes. The Permanent Fund has already received numerous IAAA Life Memberships, individual and IAAA Chapter donations, and memorials since its inception. Contributors to the Fund will be recognized in future issues of Illinois Antiquity, unless otherwise desired. Our initial Permanent Fund goal is to place capital in interest-bearing money market accounts, and certificates of deposit, achieving a higher interest rate than that through normal low bank account rates. As the fund grows, other conservative growth opportunities will be explored by the Fund Trustees to achieve conservative diversification. Please explore your own situation; whether you are an IAAA member or Chapter, a professional archaeologist, or as a friend and supporter of Illinois heritage preservation. By supporting the Permanent Fund, you can be assured that you are in fact supporting through an archaeological venue, the understanding and preservation of Illinois' rich heritage. If you are considering a Life Membership, make your check payable to IAAA and send it to Holly Labisky, P.O. Box 3355, Champaign, IL 61826. If you plan to contribute through a direct gift, donation, etc., make your check payable to IAAA Permanent Fund and send it to IAAA Permanent Fund Treasurer at the address listed below.
