Boney Spring Excavation

The Boney Spring, Missouri paleontological site yielded the bones of numerous individual mastodonts. This photograph shows the scientists at work careful extracting the bones from the soil that buried them. Notice the tusk on the right. Replicas of bones from this site were used to create a mounted skeleton, which is on display in the Museum.
