Devonian Period Fossils

This album contains images of fossils from the Devonian Period, 417 - 354 million years ago. A shallow sea covered most of North America. The Appalachian Mountains were being forced up as North America collided with Africa. Tectonic acivity was also forming mountains in Arkansas and southern Missouri. Erosion from these highlands covered the sea bottom in southern Illinois with silt and sand.
