Each letter of the alphabet has a corresponding image that visually represents its phonetics, and each letter and image suggests a story. The visual imagery in the letters allows the viewer the opportunity to make associations. The squares depicting the numerals "1" through "10" also contain items equaling the amount the number itself represents. The Illinois State Museum acquired this quilt for its permanent collection through a gift from Michelle and Guerry Suggs in honor of Nancy Suggs and Margaret Suggs Herath.
