Tilford Hord works within the structure of five generations of Illinois basketmakers who have harvested their materials from the land on which they have lived. Reflecting contemporary land use trends, and through a wish to harvest his materials responsibly, Hord purchases trees, splits and splits them again, then hand-planes the "flitches" with which he then weaves his time-honored designs.
