Colored glass
Bins filled with colorful glass marbles were found in every dime store during the thirties and forties. For 33¢ a child could buy 80 marbles and 8 shooters along with an imitation leather bag. "Marbles" could be played alone or with one other person, requiring nothing more than a handful of marbles and a circle scratched in the dirt. A "bumboozer," or large marble, served as a shooter and was used to knock around other, smaller marbles inside the ring or out of the ring.
