This indenture made this ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen, Witnesseth that Calep a Negro man aged about forty years and with his own free and voluntary will placed & bound himself apprentice unto Robert Chenney of St. Clair County I11nois, Territory, with him to live, as an apprentice to dwell continue and serve from the day of the date hereof, unto the full End and term of twenty years, from thence next ensuing, and fully to be complete and ended, during which time and term of twenty years, the said apprentice his said master well and faithfully shall serve, his secrets keep, his lawful commands gladly do and obey hurt to his said master he shall not, nor wilfully suffer it to be done by others, but of the same to the utmost of his power shall forthwith give notice to his said master, the goods of his said master, he shall not embezzle or waste, nor them send without his consent to any person, at cards dice or unlawful games he shall not pay [sic] nor frequent any house forbidden him, fornication he shall not commit, matrimony he may contract, from the service of his said master he shall not at any time depart or absent himself without his said master's leave or his representative but in all things as a good an faithful servant shall and will demean and behave himself towards his said master and a11 this during the said term of twenty years, and the said Calep furthermore contents and agrees to serve the said Robert Chenney anywhere's (sic) within, the said Territory, and the said master for consideration of which shall and will find and allow the said apprentice good and wholesome meat, drink, lodging and wearing apparel, necessary and fit for such an apprentice during the full term above mentioned. This day Calep a negro man and Robert Chenney came before me Joseph Conway deputy Clerk of the county Court of Saint Clair County and Each of them acknowledged the Contents of this Indenture for thepurposes therein mentioned and dasired that the saw might be made a Record thereof.

do hereby certify that the foregoing is a true transcript as taken from the Record A of Indentured Servants, pages 38 & 39. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal of said Court at Belleville this twenty Eighth day of July.A.D.. Eighteen hundred and twenty five.

This Indenture made this ninth day of October it, the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifteen, witnesseth that Lucey a negro wench aged about twenty years with her own free and voluntary will placed and bound herself apprentice unto Robert Chenney of the county of St Clair and Illinois Territory, with him to live as an apprentice to dwell, continue and serve from the day of the date hereof until the full end and term of forty years from thence next ensuing and fully to be complete and ended during all which time and term of forty years, the said apprentice her said master well and faithfully shall serve, his secrets keep, his lawful commands gladly do and obey, but to her said master she shall not, nor wilfully suffer to be done by others, but of the same to the utmost of her power, shall I forthwith give. notice to her said master, the goods of her said master she shall not embezzle or waste, nor them lend without his consent to any person, at cards, dice or any unlawful games she shall not play, nor frequent any house forbidden her, fornication she shall not commit, matrimony she may contract: from the service of her said master, she shall not at anytime depart or absent herself, without said master's leave,., or his representative, but in all things as a good and faithful servant shall and will demean and behave herself, towards her said master, and all this during the said term of forty years, and the said Lucey furthermore consents and agrees to serve her said master or his representative anywhere within the Territory aforesaid. And the said master for consIderation of which shall end, will find and allow unto the said apprentice, good and wholesome meat, drink, lodging and wearing apparel necessary and fit for such an apprentice during the full term above mentioned.
