  Dallas Smith (1908-1959)
Meredosia, Illinois

Dallas Smith made some unusual skin decoys in 1938. They were made by drowning the ducks so as not to damage the skin, then carefully skinning them and arranging the skins over a wooden body, neck, and head frame to dry. Glass eyes were added. A screw eye on the bottom held a line and anchor weight. The bottom was heavily coated with wax to prevent water damage. These decoys were fragile and susceptible to infestation.
