Wabash Pigtoe (Fusconaia flava)

The Wabash Pigtoe (Fusconaia flava) is a relatively small river mussel with uneven shell thickness. It was valued by button makers for the good quality of its shell, but because of its small size it was sometimes possible to remove only one button blank per valve. (Conservation Status: Currently Stable)
