Trammel nets consist of three layers. The walling is made of two nets of woven twine knitted into a large diamond-shaped wedge. The small-gauge webbing between the two walls of larger net is made of a lighter-weight filament. Fish can swim through the large outer mesh, but they become entangled in the finer inner mesh. As they try to escape, the two nets form a pocket. Smaller as well as larger fish can be caught with this effective method, which has been outlawed in some states.
